Tucked in the foothills of the Verdugo Mountains just minutes from downtown Burbank, California, DeBell Golf Club is a municipal course operated by the Burbank Parks and Recreation Department. Over the years, this facility, which includes an 18-hole regulation course, a 9-hole par-3 course, and a 9-hole disc golf course, has earned a reputation as one of the most unique and enjoyable public places to play in Los Angeles County. It has also long been a favorite filming location for many television shows, commercials, and motion pictures. When you have a tee time at DeBell Golf Club, you ll be treated to breathtaking views, a serene atmosphere, and quality golf at an affordable price. William F. Bell laid out the 18-hole course in 1959. With three sets of tees that measure 4,946 yards from the forward markers, 5,285 yards from the middle, and 5,608 yards from the back, the par-71 DeBell Golf Club layout is short, sporty, and fun. While the back nine of this 36-35 routing (the back nine has three par 3s) is DeBell s longer and tougher side, the front nine sets the tone with its parade of five short par 4s, the longest of which tips out at 302 yards. Because many of the par 4s and 5s at DeBell Golf Club are doglegs that work their way around a mountain, many players will find themselves hitting layup tee shots for placement. The tight fairways make that a challenge, however. With its hilly terrain, canyon fall-offs, meandering creeks, and thick rough, DeBell Golf Club will challenge any player who can t hit precise shots. Your driver is often best left in the bag on the layout s rather quirky holes. A nice feature of the course is that the holes are secluded from each other by hillsides and mature trees. The holes also play in every direction on the compass. One of DeBell Golf Club s strengths is its greens. While the putting surfaces hold shots well and generally roll smoothly, they are notoriously tough to read. Downhill putts can get away quickly. Walking is permitted here, but keep in mind this is a very hilly track. If you play early or late in the day, chances are you ll see deer and coyotes. All in all, DeBell Golf Club offers a wonderful escape from everyday life in Los Angeles. If you want to warm up before your tee time, you ll find a recently upgraded driving range and a putting green. The club s Par 3 course is a 9-hole pitch and putt test with holes measuring 65 to 90 yards. DeBell Golf Club boasts a beautiful craftsman-style clubhouse with a pro shop and the Hilltop Restaurant and Bar. Located on the second story of the clubhouse, the restaurant features a full bar and a deck that showcases great views of the course and valley. There s no better spot to toast your round. For a unique game on a playing field that is renowned for its views and exceptional value, make a tee time at DeBell Golf Club in Burbank.
