Shoreline Golf Links is a municipal course of the City of Mountain View, California in the Silicon Valley. The course is part of Shoreline at Mountain View, a 750-acre wildlife and recreation area that is also home to the Shoreline Amphitheatre, a major Bay Area concert venue. The eighteen-hole, championship-level golf course is not only an outstanding Robert Trent Jones II design, but in a region replete with high priced upscale courses with high green fees, Shoreline Golf Links is also a good value alternative with much more affordable tee times. Jones laid out the playing field in 1982-1883 and made alterations in 1987. The course spreads out with few trees in play on a windy, exposed site near the bay, though you ll only see the marshlands of the bay, not the bay waters. Situated beside a bird sanctuary and encompassing environmentally sensitive areas, the playing field has long been known for its abundant wildlife. (Though the proliferation of animals makes for a neat natural environment, geese and furrowing ground squirrels can also impact course conditions.) With four sets of tee markers, Shoreline Golf Links plays as short as 5,429 yards and as long as 6,988 yards. Though the course is manageable and fun for golfers of varying skill levels, this is a links-style layout that attracts plenty of long hitters and accomplished players. Shoreline Golf Links is predominantly flat. You ll find some nice dogleg holes and a character-filled back nine where the environmental sensitive areas factor into play. The winds that batter Shoreline Golf Links pick up in the afternoon and can really turn the course into a bear. Long hitters love that the course is roomy and reaches nearly 7,000 yards. Shoreline Golf Links is known for its forced-carry par 3s and its strong quartet of par 5s. Back-to-back par 5s conclude the front nine and kick off the back nine. Skilled players appreciate the intriguing variety of the holes at Shoreline Golf Links, the strategically placed bunkers, and the well-defended green complexes. Jones s greens come in a variety of shapes and sizes and feature internal slopes that make putting lines tough to read. Players who like to warm up before their round will find a driving range, chipping area, sand bunker and putting green. The clubhouse has a pro shop and a remodeled restaurant. Shoreline Golf Links is an affordable and fun muni that is well worth playing in the South Bay region.
