Opened in 1956, Spring Valley Golf Course has been a favorite in Santa Clara County for decades. The facility, which has evolved over the years to include improvements to the golf course and a new clubhouse, offers a golf course that plays nearly 6,200 yards from the tips with four sets of tees. The course is set in the beautiful, panoramic Milpitas foothills, well away from traffic and housing developments, and 10 miles from the San Jose Airport. The layout has a great variety of holes, with doglegs, picturesque par 3s and par 5s that are great risk-reward opportunities. The no. 1 handicap hole is the 515-yard, par-5 sixth. It's a dogleg right with some large trees guarding the fairway, and a good opportunity for longer hitters to try to reach the green in two. A large lake comes into play on the 199-yard, par-3 11th, as well as the par-4 ninth and 18th holes, which are both over 400 yards from the tips. Golfers have to carry the lake on the way to the green on all three holes. In addition to the golf course, Spring Valley also has a driving range, short-game area, and practice putting green. Golf instruction is also available. And inside the clubhouse is a well-stocked golf shop. The clubhouse restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch. The menu includes a great breakfast burrito as well as appetizers, hot dogs, sandwiches, and draft beer. The clubhouse is also available for special events and meetings, and there is also a snack shop on the course.
