One of the best public golf course facilities in Southern California, Steele Canyon Golf Club offers three championship nines, all designed by the great Gary Player. The nine-time major champion designed the course, which is located 20 minutes from San Diego, with respect and appreciation for the natural terrain. Each of the three nines has a distinct environment. On the Canyon Course, golfers will encounter dramatic elevation changes with incredible views. The Ranch Nine features winding fairways through a working ranch. And the Vineyards Course has beautiful woodlands, meandering streams, and working vineyards that stretch along the valley floor. Of course, the course can be played in three different 18-hole combinations, which range from the Canyon/Vineyard (6,571 yards) and Canyon/Ranch (6,781 yards) to the Vineyard/Ranch (6,908 yards). There are five sets of tees, so it can accommodate all levels of players. Highlights of Steele Canyon Golf Club include the Canyon's long, downhill par-3 fifth hole, which plays over a lake; the Ranch Course's par-5 ninth, which has two lakes near the landing area off the tee; and the Vineyards' 582-yard par-5 seventh, which has a forced carry on the third shot. In addition to the three nines, Steele Canyon has great practice facilities that include a driving range, short-game area, and practice putting green. Lessons are available from experienced teaching pros. And inside the clubhouse is a well-stocked golf shop as well as a restaurant, which is open for breakfast, lunch, and happy hour.
